Spolsky offers a concrete example: city planners modeling traffic to justify a new bus line. Traditional approaches assume each bus removes 50 cars, but that only works if 50 commuters opt for the bus, and their decision hinges on whether the bus saves them time and money over driving. HASH enables agent-based modeling, akin to the game Cities: Skylines, where each commuter's behavior is simulated. By testing thousands or even millions of potential bus routes, planners can identify which ones actually alleviate congestion.

This type of modeling is computationally intensive, but it excels precisely where closed-form formulas fail—for instance, in predicting how bus lines influence traffic patterns. HASH is poised to transform decision-making in fields ranging from urban planning to epidemiology.
